Question: How does applanation work?
Answer: Applanation is the technique for checking eye pressure. Applanation works by measuring the amount of pressure it takes to flatten a defined area of cornea. This is analogous to kicking a car tire to estimate the interior air pressure.

There are many ways to check eye pressure, but applanation tonometry is the most accurate and the preferred method. The Goldman applanation tonometer is a device attached to the slitlamp microscope.

agreed, but accurate in skilled hands only. The device also needs to be tuned-up from time to time.

goldmann applanation tonometry based on Imbert-fick principle’P=F/A ,here,P=pressure,F=force applied,A=area of flattening.
