Question: What antibiotic do we use to cover most corneal abrasions?
Answer: Most corneal abrasions are not infected and will heal quickly. Emperic coverage with a gentle antibiotic like erythromycin ointment can help lubricate the ocular surface to speed healing. If the patient is a contact lens wearer, however, pseudomonas coverage with a quinolone like cipro is needed.
