Question: What are the layers of the lens and which are removed in cataract surgery?

Answer: The lens has three layers. The outer capsule, middle cortex, and the central nucleus. In cataract surgery, a hole is made in the front capsule, and the inner cortex and nucleus are removed. The new implant is placed inside the remaining capsular bag.
