Question: What kind of orbital wall fracture needs to be repaired?
Answer: Most orbital fractures will heal well without intervention. Every once in a while, however, the patient needs surgical repair. Findings that would indicate need for surgery include:
- Eye muscle entrapement (signs of restricted movement on exam with forced ductions)
- Eye muscle entrapement with a bradycardic response with eye movement
- Enophthalmos (sunken-in eye)
- Downward displacement of the globe
